Three Types of Conditional Sentences

Type 1: Real Condition

Si + présent → futur simple (or présent, impératif)

• Si vous acceptez notre offre, nous signerons le contrat la semaine prochaine. — If you accept our offer, we will sign the contract next week.
• Si le marché baisse, nous réduirons nos investissements. — If the market falls, we will reduce our investments.
• Si vous avez des questions, contactez-moi. — If you have any questions, contact me.

Business examples Type 1:

• Si la proposition vous convient, nous pourrons commencer rapidement. — If the proposal suits you, we will be able to start quickly.
• Si vous avez besoin d'informations supplémentaires, je serai heureux de vous les fournir. — If you need additional information, I will be happy to provide it to you.

Type 2: Hypothetical Condition

Si + imparfait → conditionnel présent

• Si j'avais plus de budget, j'investirais dans ce projet. — If I had a bigger budget, I would invest in this project.
• Si le taux d'intérêt était plus bas, nous emprunterons davantage. → emprunterions — If the rate were lower, we would borrow more.
• Si vous pouviez venir à Paris, ce serait idéal. — If you could come to Paris, it would be ideal.

In negotiations:

• Si vous réduisiez votre prix de 5%, nous achèterions immédiatement. — If you reduced your price by 5%, we would buy immediately.
• Si nous étions d'accord sur ce point, pourrions-nous avancer? — If we agreed on this point, could we move forward?
